Tourist Visa

We enjoy welcoming visitors to New Zealand, so to ensure you have a memorable experience, it’s a good idea to make sure you’ve done your homework and have everything sorted before you leave.

Before your arrival, you'll need to ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date, and if required, have a valid New Zealand visa.

Holidaying in New Zealand

On a visiting visa, Indian people can stay in New Zealand for up to nine months. The fastest and easiest way to apply for a visiting visa is online. If you have a passport from the UK or another nation within the visa-waiver agreement, you do not require a visa to holiday in New Zealand.

Transiting through New Zealand or Australia

If you are flying to New Zealand from an Australian airport, you may also require an Australian visa; check with your travel agency or airline if you are unclear. Transit visas (opens in a new window) will also be required for all persons traveling through New Zealand unless they are explicitly exempted by immigration rules.

More information about visas

The visa and immigration information on this page is just a summary. For everything, you need to know about coming to New Zealand, visit Immigration New Zealand.

On arrival

You will need to complete a Passenger Arrival Card before passing through Customs Passport Control. A passenger arrival card will be given to you during your flight. If not, cards are available in the arrival area.

What you can bring to New Zealand

After you’ve completed passport control, you should retrieve your bags and go through customs and biosecurity procedures. To preserve New Zealand and its environment, certain products are not permitted to enter the nation, have entry limitations, or must be notified if they are regarded to pose a biosecurity risk. Food, plants, animal goods, and outdoor recreational equipment are examples of these.
Your luggage may be scented by a detector dog and/or x-rayed, as well as checked, to identify any potentially dangerous things you may be transporting.
It is advisable to familiarize oneself with these standards prior to the trip to prevent fines. Please visit the Ministry of Primary Industries (opens in a new window) for a complete list of prohibited, restricted, or declarable products (biosecurity agency).

Allowances and duty-free concessions

As a tourist to New Zealand, you may be eligible for certain reductions and duty-free entry on certain items. Alcohol smoking and tobacco allowances are available to those aged 17 and over. For full information on allowances and duty-free concessions, please visit New Zealand Customs.
